Brilliant work by McCoy Tyner – an album that has him firmly stepping out of the shadow of Coltrane with a sound influenced by the rising Afro-centric style of soul jazz to emerge in the 70s! The group on the set is a quartet with Bobby Hutcherson on vibes – and the mixture of LP, Vinyl record album.

McCoy's masterpiece (or one of them). Fresh out of Coltrane's ensemble, Tyner wasted no time in creating this album, and it is a beautiful piano driven album from start to finish. Tyner and Bill Evans are my favorite pianists and this album will explain why. Joe Henderson plays a great sax on this as well.

Though it is often an overlooked entry in McCoy Tyner’s canon – perhaps because it came so soon after his magnificent Blue Note debut, ’s The Real McCoy – Expansions is an album that.

See all the albums from McCoy Tyner available on Napster. McCoy Tyner has always been one of the most emotionally expressive pianists in jazz. In contrast to Thelonious Monk's ironic understatements and Herbie Hancock's lush detachment, Tyner is a man pos.
